Intertextuality

Intertextuality is the use of something familiar to the audience to create a connection. Its taking something that has been used previously and is possibly iconic and replicating.

An example of this is Blink 182s music video 'All the small things' in comparison with One Directions 'What makes you beautiful'

Blink 182s music video was released in 2009 and abot forty seconds into the song you can see cuts of the group on a beach singing to camera. This idea and what looks like the same beach is used in One Directions music video two years later.
